After the recent lecture delivered by the legendary Henry LaBounta that gathered hundreds of members from the creative community, representatives from VFX and gaming companies, and students from numerous universities, Nordeus continues with its series of open lectures that aim to push the local creative industry forward.

This time around, the star of the show is Ron Ashtiani, founder and CEO of the famous British studio Atomhawk. This is the studio that developed the concept art and visuals for some of the biggest titles in gaming: Marvel’s The Avengers, Mortal Kombat, Eve: Valkyrie, Marvel’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Injustice 2, Sniper Elite 4, Mortal Kombat X, Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, Angry Birds: Go!, and many others.

The lecture entitled “The Art of Art Direction” shows that defining a clear, relevant and engaging art direction is one of the key steps in the process of creating an end product in any area of the creative industry. Not only does it allow a transparent way of communicating the objectives to the team, but it also helps the development of a unique artistic style. This, in turn, defines the specific objectives of a design that must support a range of elements, such as characters and their environment.

“Creative processes that can be used by an art director with the aim to explore and precisely define a unique art style are of great importance for the success of every project. Whether you work on concept, marketing art, game characters or UI elements, defining the style and direction at the very beginning is very impactful”, said Daryl Clewlow, Head of Art at Nordeus. “I’m very happy that we will host Ron, an expert with multiple decades of experience, who recognized our idea of sharing knowledge with the community in order to advance the industry as a whole. Lectures like “The Art Of Art Direction” are incredibly useful and important, but we are also very happy that participants use these gatherings not only to learn, but also to exchange experience with their peers and build relationships.”

Ron founded the Atomhawk studio back in 2009, having previously spent more than 16 years in the industry as an artist and art director. Through creativity and energy, Atomhawk is pushing the boundaries of digital art and design in the industry. Ron Ashtiani’s lecture “The Art of Art Direction” will take place on the 17th of July at 18:00h in “Fabrika”, Bulevar Despota Stefana, 115 (the entrance is from the Poenkareova street).
